Birmingham

This summer Birmingham will host some of the greatest athletes on earth as the USA and Jamaica Track and Field teams set up their London 2012 Training Camps at some of the city's finest sporting venues.

Jonathan Edwards and Jamaica Live Open Weekend

Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay aren’t the only Olympic stars that the city will welcome this summer though. On Saturday 30 June the Olympic Flame will also arrive in Birmingham and will be hosted overnight at a mass celebratory event featuring performances from major cultural organisations and international music acts. For the duration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Live Site in Birmingham’s Victoria Square will become the natural destination for London 2012 coverage, with news and associated events broadcast on a Big Screen creating a “fan fest” environment

Birmingham also has a huge range of programmes running up to and during Games Time, providing an opportunity for everyone in this region to have their own London 2012 experience.  Whether this is taking up dance through projects like Jamaica Live, staging your own Community Games or watching the stunning Festival 2012 aerial performance “the Voyage”,  there is something for everyone to have a go at across Birmingham in 2012.
